Cosmic Soup" We are a way for the universe to know itself. Some part of our being knows this is where we came from. We long to return. And we can, because the cosmos is also within us. We're made of star stuff." -Carl SaganThe process of photography leads me to a deep sense of serenity and fulfillment. It allows me to free my imagination and explore how things are linked together. I am interested in the nature of consciousness and how it is connected to the material world. Perhaps nature assembles little clues that connect us in a visual way to the universe. One object may look like another; a clump of grass that looks like the outline of a child; a pond can appear to contain a nebula. The Cosmic Soup series was photographed around my neighborhood pond and explores the nature of reality, consciousness and our connection with the cosmos. We are taught that our brain creates consciousness but what if the opposite was true? Perhaps it is consciousness that creates our material existence. My intuition suspects there is some truth in this theory. From the time I was a young child I have felt as though I were only a passenger in my body, like one would be in a car. With my camera, I seek to glimpse the nature of consciousness and its possibilities. I am interested in recording the internal experience through photographing the subtle clues that are found in nature; in this way I hope to attain better understanding of life's mysteries. The Cosmic Soup Series began 2011 and is ongoing. Shot with a Leica M9, processed in Lightroom Printed on Epson Exhibition Fiber paper and Epson Ultrachrome HDR inks (K3).
